The glass stones are made by a small, traditional family-run manufactory in Germany that continues a Bohemian glass and jewellery tradition to this day. The manufactory’s glassmaking history dates back to 1897. The stones are produced using pressing tools, some of which have been in use for generations.
The ornamental flower elements are made of jewellery brass and are produced in a specialised German manufactory using original historical steel stamping tools. This traditional form of jewellery production is part of a craft heritage that has become rare today. Many of the historical forms used by DOLL UP SISTER date from approximately 1880 to 1960. Numerous ornaments from this period were originally developed and produced for renowned Parisian fashion houses. Creating the steel tools required for this process was a highly specialised craft, in which ornamental motifs and reliefs were executed with great precision for serial jewellery production.
For DOLL UP SISTER, such ornamental elements and historical forms are specifically researched, selected and placed within a contemporary design context.
The brass alloys used are characterised by dimensional stability and precise workmanship. The metal alloys are tested for harmful substances, including in accordance with the OEKO-TEX® Standard.
The 5 µm-thick 750 gold plating in 18-karat gold is applied over a palladium layer. The finishing is carried out by a specialised electroplating company in Pforzheim.

The historical glass jewelry stones come from a small, tradition-rich family manufactory in Germany that continues a Bohemian glass and jewelry-making tradition to this day. The manufactory’s glassworking heritage dates back to 1897. The stones are still produced using inherited press tools, some of which have been used for generations. Many of these tools were originally engraved by hand—particularly ornamental and floral relief patterns that give the glass stones their characteristic depth and distinctive visual language.
This evolved craft tradition, with its inherited tools and techniques, has become something truly special today. We are therefore especially grateful to work with a manufactory that continues to preserve this traditional form of glassmaking to this day.
High-Quality 18k Gold Plating (Doublé)
This piece of jewelry is finished with an approx. 5 µm thick layer of 18k gold (75% pure gold). At this thickness, the plating represents a high-quality finish and is referred to in the jewelry field as Doublé.
The finishing process takes place in a specialized electroplating facility in Pforzheim, with which we have worked for many years. First, a palladium layer is applied as a protective and barrier layer, followed by the gold plating. This results in an even and durable surface.
Production is carried out deliberately in a long-standing partner company in Germany under controlled conditions.
Compared to simple plating, this finish is characterized by a higher gold content, strong durability, and a warm, deep color effect.

The production of such matrices was considered a highly specialized art of steel engraving: ornaments and reliefs had to be precisely cut by hand into hardened steel in reverse, as negative forms, and without any possibility of correction. The engraver was often also the pattern designer, developing ornamental motifs directly for jewelry and couture.
For Doll Up Sister, the elements of such specialized manufacturers are consciously researched and curated.
