This piece of jewellery is finished with a 5 µm-thick layer of 18-carat gold (75% fine gold). With this coating thickness, the finish is considered a high-quality version and is referred to in the jewellery sector as Doublé.
The finishing is carried out by a specialised electroplating company in Pforzheim, with whom we have worked closely and with great trust for many years. First, a layer of palladium is applied as a protective and barrier layer, followed by the gold coating. This creates an even, durable surface.
Compared with simple gold plating, this finish is distinguished by its coating thickness, high durability and warm, deep colour.
Shell pearls – a natural imitation with a fine lustre
Shell pearls are made from natural mother-of-pearl – the inner material of mollusc shells. The core is based on this material, giving the pearls a weight similar to their natural counterparts as well as an even, precise shape. A fine finishing process creates a subtle lustre, smooth surface and clear colours. As a natural imitation, they combine the aesthetic of classic pearls with excellent suitability for everyday wear. Particularly high-quality grades are selected for DOLL UP SISTER.
Ornamental metal elements
The metal elements are produced by specialised manufacturers using original, mostly hand-engraved steel dies and historic pressing tools. Many of the forms used were created between approximately 1880 and 1960; numerous ornaments were designed and produced for major Parisian fashion houses, among others. For Doll Up Sister, these elements are deliberately researched, selected and curated.
Base material and responsible production
The components come from a small family-run manufacturer in Germany. The brass alloys are tested for harmful substances, including in accordance with the OEKO-TEX® Standard.
To preserve the beauty of your product in the long term, we recommend storing it in its packaging after wear. This protects it from prolonged exposure to light, scratches, and moisture, ensuring you enjoy it for a long time.

The production of such matrices was considered a highly specialized art of steel engraving: ornaments and reliefs had to be precisely cut by hand into hardened steel in reverse, as negative forms, and without any possibility of correction. The engraver was often also the pattern designer, developing ornamental motifs directly for jewellery and couture.
For Doll Up Sister, the elements of such specialized manufacturers are consciously researched and curated.
